Investigating opportunities for Blue Carbon additionality in Queensland
Charlie’s major interests lay in conservation science and restoration ecology, with a focus on spatial analysis and coding. The opportunity to carry out environmental research with real-world applications and work with leading scientists in BC research is what lead him to work with BCL.
The aim of his thesis is to investigate opportunities for BC additionality in Queensland. His thesis will involve the following: 1) extensively mapping BC stocks along the Queensland coastline; examining anthropogenic and environmental drivers, as well as predicting BC additionality using the Invest software, 2) creating a BC restoration prioritisation map of Queensland, aiming to maximise BC additionality, 3) carrying out a site-level assessment of priority restoration areas, to assess localised methodologies for restoration, 4) implement a literature review on wetland restoration techniques in Australia.
