Katie is a marine biologist with experience in coral reproductive research, reef restoration, ecosystem health monitoring, environmental communication and education. She received a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from the University of Liverpool, and a Master of Science in Marine Environmental Management from the University of York. During the research component of her Masters, she joined the Hawai’i Institute of Marine Biology where she worked with the Gate’s lab to investigate the impact coral bleaching events had on the reproductive health of reef ecosystems. She has worked in various countries around the world including Indonesia and Mozambique, monitoring reef ecosystems to implement management plans and educating local communities. After moving to Australia, Katie joined the Australian Institute of Marine Science where she assisted with research to overcome the high mortality rates experienced by early life-history stages of coral for use in reef-restoration activities.
Katie is very excited to be working with the Blue Carbon Lab on a project to investigate strategies for restoring and preserving coastal wetlands.
