Wenzhen's research

Wenzhen is a current Ph.D. candidate in the field of ecology at the State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research (SKLEC), East China Normal University. He obtained his Master’s degree in geography in 2020. His research focuses on the assessment and management of ecosystem functions in salt marshes. Presently, China has undertaken a comprehensive eradication initiative targeting the invasive species Spartina alterniflora in coastal wetlands. Concerns have been raised regarding the negative ecological consequences of this decision and action, such as blue carbon loss and diminished coastal protection functions. Wenzhen places particular emphasis on investigating the responses of typical salt marsh wetland ecosystems to ecological restoration efforts aimed at removing Spartina alterniflora and formulates a restoration plan that could alleviate the negative impacts of Spartina alterniflora eradication.
