Alex Peska

Alex's work

Alex is a marine and coastal researcher from the US. During his time at UMD, he worked as a database manager with NASA-ARSET, delivering remote sensing training material. Alex has also worked as a research assistant at UMD researching wildlife ecology, disease ecology, and remote sensing of salt marshes in field and lab settings.

In 2023, Alex was a geospatial analyst with the University of Melbourne’s QAEco Conservation Futures lab in collaboration with Bush Heritage. Here, he developed an integrated knowledge system to support conservation in unison with sacred indigenous knowledge.

Finally, Alex consulted with NOAA Exploration’s Okeanos team to analyse, map, and characterize deep sea marine debris in the Atlantic Ocean.

He has a particular passion for exploring dynamic ecosystems and leveraging GIS to implement solutions that benefit both people and the environment.
