Marine Biosecurity
The Blue Carbon Lab has the expertise and skills to assist with identifying and addressing marine biosecurity threats and risks. We are the Australian experts for marine plant diseases. We can undertake detailed case studies, risk assessments, and reviews for marine pests and pathogens. We also have the capacity and network to provide relevant information to, and liaise with, clients, stakeholders and members of the public.
– Project design consultation
– Bioinformatics and statistical analyses
– Data interpretation
– DNA and RNA extractions
– Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)
– Microorganism culturing and assays
– Next-generation sequencing (NGS)
The Australian Marine Biosecurity Database (AMBD) is a web-based, user- friendly platform developed by the Blue Carbon Lab that centralises research and information about Australian marine pathogens and pests. All the data used to create the AMBD is boiled down from peer-reviewed scientific and grey literature and presented in one place. Through the support of our sponsors and partners, we also provide case studies on specific diseases, pathogens and pests that synthesise all the data available and identify potential research challenges and areas of future study.
This project was delivered as part of the Pilot Projects Program of the Land Restoration Fund, supported by the Queensland Government.
Research was led by Deakin University in collaboration with The University of Queensland, James Cook University, CSIRO, HSBC, Qantas, Australian Government Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, NQ Dry Tropics, the Great Barrier Reef Foundation and Greencollar.
