New Grant: Helen Macpherson Smith Trust

By Blue Carbon Lab | Grant, News, VicWetlandRehab | Comments are Closed | 9 July, 2021 | 2

The Blue Carbon Lab has received $200,000 of funding from the Helen Macpherson Smith Trust for the Victorian Coastal Wetland Restoration Program. This funding will be used to build upon the achievements of the program over the past 3 years and look to upscale wetland restoration using low-cost methods along the Victorian coast. This project will do so by determining scalability, supporting practitioners with specialist resources, and reviewing financial impetus mechanisms to encourage long term protection. This 3 year project will run from June 2021-June 2024.

By building capacity and developing financial mechanisms to encourage large-scale restoration, this project will work towards increasing restoration efforts state-wide that will help recover a threatened ecosystem that delivers co-benefits to the Victorian community. This project will seed new restoration markets, provide employment opportunities, all the while helping Victoria to meet its RAMSAR, GHG emissions, and biodiversity obligations.
